SUPPORTING YOUR PARISH
A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF PARISH FINANCE
What happens to the money that is put into the offertory baskets every Sunday?
The money that is put into the offertory baskets is used for the everyday running of the Parish. This includes wages, heating, lighting, and maintenance of the churches in your respective parish, the insurance of all parish property, the diocesan levy, telephone, equipment, bank charges, church requisites and stationary needs.
What happens to the money people put into the weekly envelopes?
There are two kinds of envelopes in the box of envelopes
- The envelopes marked ‘Weekly Offering’: The money donated to the ‘Weekly Offering’ collection is used to finance the day-to-day running of the parish.
- The other coloured envelopes: The money donated to the coloured envelopes is for the Parish Development (special maintenance and initiatives); Priest’s Collections, Retired Priests, List of the Dead, the Propagation of the Faith, Sacristans Collections and Peter’s Pence.
How can I help my Parish?
We depend on the voluntary contributions of parishioners for the running and development of our parish. You may contribute to the running and development of the parish in the following ways:
You may contribute to your parish by donating to the offertory collection. This collection is taken up at all weekend masses. All money from this collection goes towards the day-to-day running of the parish.
You may contribute to your parish by taking a box of envelopes. These are distributed to homes in the parish that request them at the beginning of every year. As well as the standard weekly envelopes, the box of envelopes also contains a number of monthly envelopes which are for Parish Development fund, which goes to paying for special or one off expenses, such as repairs and maintenance as well as parish initiatives with schools and the local parish. The box of envelopes also contains some special collection envelopes which allow you to contribute to special collections and the support of the priests collections. They can be dropped into the weekly collection basket at every weekend Mass. Alternatively, you may return your envelopes to the Parish Office. If, you wish to receive a box of envelopes, you may obtain one from the Parish Office.
You may contribute to your parish by arranging to have a Standing Order with your bank. If you choose to do so, you have the option of making a monthly, three monthly or yearly contribution. An application for a Standing Order may be made at your bank. If you decide to set up a Standing Order, please contact the parish office in Ardfinnan or Fr Michael Toomey for details.
By using the Box of Envelopes or Standing orders, and assuming you have contributed €250.00 or more to the parish within the tax year, the parish can receive a tax-refund from the Revenue Commissioners under Charitable Donations. This can be of a huge benefit to the parish and no extra expense to your contribution.
Further details on maintaining the upkeep of our parishes along with our parish Accounts will be issued in the coming weeks. Again, I, and the Parish Finance and Pastoral Councils are so grateful for your continued financial support in these challenging times. Thank you so much. Fr Michael.
A NEW YEAR – A FRESH START! ALPHA IRELAND
After a turbulent past 2 years, Alpha Ireland wants to help you and your church start the New Year with intention. Refocus on the Cross and rediscover the joy of the Gospel this January, as we respond to Pope Francis’ invitation “to all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ” (Evangelii Gaudium).
We will be hosting a very special Alpha Online for priests and parish leadership teams or PPCs from Tuesday January 18th 2022 at 8pm, for 11 weeks for one hour, and from the comfort of your own home.
This is an ideal journey for small groups from parishes all over the country. This important part of our Diocesan Pastoral Plan: “Go Make Disciples” will be of interest to those already on our ministry teams and parish councils. In the meantime – if you are interested or want to know more, please contact Fr Michael or email firstname.lastname@example.org
CCTV CAMERAS / LIVESTREAM
Please note that for the protection and security of everyone CCTV cameras are in operation in our churches. All of our Masses are Live streamed in Ardfinnan and are at other times broadcast from Newcastle , Fourmilewater, Ballybacon and Grange on Churchservices.tv and Facebook Live pages.
Please contact Paddy in the Parish Office on 052-746 4408 or Fr Michael in Newcastle / Fourmilewater for those who wish to book baptisms in the coming months. We can now have two families at one time – but would ask that each family only bring a maximum of 15 people with them, to keep us all safe.
God bless, and keep safe!
