BALLYBACON & FOURMILEWATER  SANCTUARY

This week, I had the sad privilege of attending a De-consecration Liturgy of the Chapel in St Luke’s Hospital in Clonmel led by Bishop Cullinan. This chapel has since 1890 been a source of many blessed and sacramental memories for generations of families and patients. Sadly, the chapel is no longer in use since before the pandemic and the decision was taken to close the building for public worship.

After  meeting with local parish council members, and to avoid any damage or destruction of the furnishings in the chapel,  we have offered to take the Altar, Ambo, stand, as well as the Stations of the Cross and re commission them into Ballybacon Church. They will be cleaned up in the coming weeks before they are used in our church and will enhance our Sanctuary Area for years to come. Our current Altar will be put in place as a side Altar for the Blessed Sacrament in our church, and we are hoping to re paint part of the church in the coming weeks. We will offer a Mass yearly in Ballybacon for the deceased patients and staff of St Luke’s Hospital who gathered around the Altar and ambos for so many years.

We were also able to obtain new candlesticks for use in Fourmilewater Church sanctuary which are currently being cleaned and will be used in memory of the hospital every time they are used.

NEW LIGHTS IN ARDFINNAN & GRANGE

Thanks to your support to the Parishes Development fund every month, we were able to update the lighting system inside Ardfinnan church last week. The response and feedback has been so positive and welcoming and makes the church much warmer. We are also looking at the lighting system in Grange which we hope will allow the lights outside the church to be on a certain times during the evening.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Best wishes and congratulations to the students in Grange NS and Ardfinnan NS who will be making their First Holy Communions this coming Saturday. We wish them every good wish and blessing, and look forwards to seeing them and their families continue their relationship with Jesus.

RTE NEWS MASS

I was asked this week for the parish to continue to be part of the RTE News Mass for the coming months on a Monday morning. This service which was such a huge help to people during lockdown, has now grown considerably to be of huge service to those in hospital, nursing homes, alone at homes, prisons, and schools. The response has been overwhelming, and many people have travelled to Ardfinnan and Newcastle / Fourmilewater to see our beautiful churches. Delighted to be of service to the whole country and for people to come and see our beautiful villages and surrounding areas.

CCTV CAMERAS / LIVESTREAM

Please note that for the protection and security of everyone CCTV cameras are in operation in our churches. All of our Masses are Live streamed in Ardfinnan and are at other times broadcast from Newcastle , Fourmilewater, Ballybacon and Grange on Churchservices.tv and Facebook Live pages.

God bless, and keep safe!

Fr. Michael
